Thanks to the Flying Chiropractors from Moose Jaw
A couple of factors in our recent national election can give natural healthcare business owners and entrepreneurs optimism for a better 2025.
HEALTH CARE ADVOCATE
Many of us have heard Robert F Kennedy, Jr. speak at chiropractic seminars. I did at Billy DeMoss's CalJam in Southern California a few years back. Years earlier, I took my son to hear him talk here in Milwaukee about ecological concerns. One issue close to home was how the smoke from the coal plants that produce electricity creates mercury, a toxin that ends up in our lakes, streams, and drinking water.
Kennedy has been an outspoken opponent of polluters and has sued companies such as Monsanto, ExxonMobil, Cargill, Duke Energy, and even Google for removing videos critical of COVID-19 vaccines.
He has also gone after federal agencies that should look after our health, such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
He has a remarkable memory and grasp of environmental and health issues. He is on the side of health and has demonstrated his skill and spirit in fighting to defend it.
President-elect Trump has promised Kennedy significant authority in addressing and supporting health care in his new Administration.
ENTREPRENEURIAL AND SMALL BUSINESS ADVOCATE
Mega corporations influence, if not control, governments through financial support, donations, and lobbyists. Government employees, for the most part, have little experience starting or running an independent business.
Elon Musk, an entrepreneur and business owner of unparalleled stature, is also deeply involved in the new Administration. He says, "When companies are little, they're like tadpoles. I mean, they just die very easily. You need to have an environment that tries to protect little companies and help them get bigger." He also says that "Starting a business is not for everyone... there's lots of optimism... then you encounter all sorts of issues... if you succeed—then, after a long time, you will finally get back to happiness."
On a scale much larger than any of us are on, he still knows the trials and challenges of the entrepreneur. In this regard, he is on the side of the independent business owner.
ACROSS THE GENERATIONS: FITNESS TESTING AND THE FLYING CHIROPRACTORS
You may not agree with everything Kennedy or Musk say or do, or with the new president-elect. However, I cannot recall such a dynamic mix in a new administration that has the potential to support chiropractic and independent healthcare businesses.
Not only do Kennedy and Musk demonstrate real-world accomplishments in their areas of expertise, but their efforts continue what their forebears began.
The Kennedy brothers in the 1960's sought policies to improve health and fitness. President Kennedy initiated fitness testing in schools, initiated cleaner air and water standards, and supported pesticide research. His brother, Robert Kennedy, supported these policies and helped start the Environmental Protection Agency.
In Elon Musk's past, we discovered that his great-grandmother, Almeda Haldeman, was the first chiropractor in Canada!
She raised her son, Joshua Haldeman, who was to be Elon's grandfather, in Moose Jaw, Canada. He also became a chiropractor, graduating from Palmer Chiropractic College in 1926, and was a friend of B.J. Palmer. He was instrumental in forming the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College.
Joshua was also an adventurer. He married Winnifred Fletcher, and they had four children, including twin girls Maye and Kaye, who were born in 1948. (Maye later became Elon's mom.)
One day on a trip, he spotted a "for sale" sign on a single-engine airplane sitting in a farmer's field. He had no cash but convinced the farmer to take his car in exchange. "It was rather impetuous, since Joshua did not know how to fly. He hired someone to fly him home and teach him how to pilot the plane. The family came to be known as The Flying Haldeman's, and he was described by a chiropractic trade journal as perhaps the most remarkable figure in the history of flying chiropractors."
And there you have it – all rolled into one: healthcare and independent business mavericks as part of the new Administration.
Where I sit, the future looks bright for healthcare entrepreneurs in 2025!
Think BIG for a better 2025!
